YOUTH DANCE COMING SOON!

The Starlight Sound Youth Dance and Lock-In will be held here July 12 with the dance starting at 8PM and featuring a Starlight Sound DJ. We need chaperones for the dance and/or overnight lock-in. Cost for the dance will be $4.50 with a can of food, without, $5.00. Cost for the lock-in will be $8.50 with a can of food, $9.00 without. All canned goods will be donated to the local food bank. RSVP to Kristina Wiederhold at 360-303-1553 or to the church office by July 8.
The dance is open to grades 6-12 and graduating seniors are welcome also.
There will be another planning meeting Sunday, July 6 at 5:30 PM.

Shaffer Retirement Reception - June 29, 2008

As you may know, nonperishable food items in decorative baskets will be the table centerpieces at the retirement reception. Afterwards all food will be donated to the local food bank. If you would like to help fill these baskets, please bring food items to the church by Sunday, June 22. Food can be left at the office or in the wooden box to the right of the fireplace in Wesley Hall. Thank you!

Cooperative School of Christian Mission

There will be only one school this year, at Central WA. University in Ellensburg, June 11-14. Register before June 20 and save! Pick two comprehensive studies out of the following three areas:
Spiritual Growth—I Believe in Jesus (all School study), led by Dr. Ronald Hines.
Social Issues—Giving Our Hearts Away: Native American Survival(elective), led by Barry Moffett, JaNet Crouse, and Alicia Coleman-Clark.
Geographic Focus-Israel/Palestine (elective), led by Paul Graves & Mark Wendle

Annual Dinner Meeting and Farewell

June 1st at 5PM at Snohomish UMC, enjoy a wonderful dinner and take care of the business activities of the District. Cost is $10 per person. We will also be saying a fond farewell to Edsel Goldson. Speaker: Tricia Pearce, a certified counselor involved with a program for returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. This is a program with the Veterans Hospital and will be very interesting.

Tex Sample Leads Workshop Here

Sunday, February 10, from 2-5PM. Tex Sample, renowned storyteller, uses dry humor and plain speech as he crisscrosses boundaries between poor and rich, town and gown, wise and ignorant, believer and atheist. He has authored 6 books and co-edited a seventh. Registration and suggested donation of $20 is requested; call the office at 360-629-9555.

Mr. Sample will also preach at the 8:30 AM blended service as well as the 10:45 AM traditional worship service on February 10th.

The Cokesbury bookstore will bring a large display of books relating to church redevelopment, church leadership supplies, and a wide assortment of titles for your personal spiritual growth and enjoyment.

Flowers

If you would like to donate flowers on a Sunday for the worship center table, please sign up on the “flower chart” located on the wall at the far end of the counter in Wesley Hall. If you wish to do this in memory of someone or for any other special occasion, please let Carol in the office know by the Wednesday before and she will acknowledge it in the bulletin.

Spotlight on Torture

Rory Kennedy’s Emmy Award-winning HBO documentary “Ghosts of Abu Ghraib” will be shown at the First United Methodist Church, 1607 East Division in Mt. Vernon on Sunday, October 28 at 7:00PM in the Rees Room at the north end of the building. This is in conjunction with the nation-wide project organized by the National Religious Campaign Against Torture (NRCAT).

SILVER SAGES

The Silver Sages will be lunching at Boondocker’s in Marysville this coming Thursday. We will meet at the church at 11:00 to carpool to the restaurant for lunch at 11:30. If you are not on the list to receive a reminder call and wish to attend, please make a reservation with Elaine Hilde at 387-5624 by Monday, October 15. Open to anyone 55 years of age and older.

WORK DAY

We’re hoping to get a few fall projects completed next Saturday, October 20th. If you’re able to help from 9 AM to noon, bring your own tools and enjoy a light lunch afterwards.

Food Donations

An additional 75 pounds of food was received last Sunday, bringing the total donated to the local Food Bank to 307 pounds. Thank you!
